Chapter 30-Montgomery GI Bill® (Form 22-1990, program change Form 22-1995)

  • Provides education benefits to veterans and service members who served at least two years of active duty and who began active duty service after June 30, 1985.
  • Monthly Stipend paid directly to the student. 

Chapter 1606-Montgomery GI Bill® Selected Reserve (Form 22-1990)

  • Provides up to 36 months of education benefits to members of the Selected Reserve.
  • You agreed to serve 6 years in Selected Reserve or you are an officer in the Selected Reserve and agreed to serve 6 years in addition to your initial service obligation.
  • Your obligation must have started after June 30, 1985.
  • Monthly Stipend paid directly to the student.

Chapter 31-Veteran Readiness and Employment (Form 28-1900)

  • Provide assistance to veterans who have a service-connected disability of at least 10 percent and in need of vocational rehabilitation.   Did not receive a dishonorable discharge.
  • Covers student’s tuition, fees, books, school supplies.

Chapter 33-Post 9/11 G.I. Bill® (Form 22-1990, program change/college form 22-1995)           

  • Provides education benefits if you have served at least 90 days on active duty after September 10, 2001.
  • Tuition and fees-if you qualify, will cover full in-state tuition and fees.  Paid directly to the college.
  • Monthly housing allowance and book Stipend (if eligible) paid directly to the student.
  • Must verify attendance each month via text, e-mail, or telephone.

Chapter 33-Post 9/11 GI Bill® Transfer Benefits (Spouse/Dependent Form 22-1990E) 

  • Active duty or Selected Reserve service members may be able to transfer his/her Post 9/11 GI Bill® benefits if approved by the Department of Defense.
  • Tuition and fees-if you qualify, will cover full in-state tuition and fees.  Paid directly to the college.
  • Monthly housing allowance and book Stipend paid directly to the student.
  • Spouse is not eligible for housing allowance while veteran is on active duty.
  • Must verify attendance each month via text, e-mail, or telephone.

Fry Scholarship-Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry

  • A scholarship Post 9/11 benefits for children and spouses of active duty members of the Armed Forces who died in the line of duty after September 10, 2001.

Chapter 35-Dependents Educational Assistance (DEA) (Form 22-5490)   

  • A benefit for spouses and children of 100% services-connected disabled veteran or veteran who died due to services connected duties.  If eligible, up to 45 months of entitlement is allowed.
  • Benefit paid directly to the student. Therefore, student will be required to pay tuition and fees by due date or have financial aid in place.

VMSDEP-Virginia Military Survivors and Dependents Education Program

  • Provides benefits for eligible dependents attending a Public College or University in the Commonwealth of Virginia for a Maximum of 8 semesters.
  • The child must be between the ages of 16- and 29 (no age limit for spouse) of a qualifying Veteran.
  • Veteran must be totally and permanently disabled or at least 90% permanently disabled due to military service.
